I'm the founder of Worm Capital, an investment management firm based in La Jolla, California (www.wormcapital.com). Our firm focuses on five verticals, including retail and enterprise technology. This is the best of times for stock pickers, in my view. Disruption is rifling through one vertical after another, calling into question all of the old rules while introducing entirely new ways of doing business. I love my job as a portfolio manager. For me, it's a 24/7 obsession. Before I founded Worm Capital, I was a co-manager of portfolios, primarily investing in turnarounds and special situations. I received my law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1984, passed my CPA exam in 1985, and began my career at KPMG as an accountant. In my columns, I offer my analysis into a passion of mine: stock buybacks and executive incentives. I've been on a deep-dive into the subject for more than two years, having studied all 30 Dow companies and their buyback schemes in mind-numbing detail.
