In 2015 Trevor Neil commenced his 24-part Comprehensive Course in Technical Analysis. This course, delivered in monthly one-hour session is sponsored by Thomson Reuters. 2015
17th April - Module 1 - Charts and Charting
This module covers charts and charting -Line, Line and Bar and Japanese Candlesticks – their characteristics and advantages. We will introduce so other exotic Japanese techniques and Market Profile
15th May – Module 2 - Moving Averages
In this module Trevor Neil will cover the types of moving averages used in technical analysis, their respective advantages and differences in practice and techniques for using double- and triple moving averages.
19th June – Module 3 - Dow Theory
In this module Trevor Neil will explain the importance and contribution made by Charles Dow to technical analysis. Considered the father of modern Western technical analysis, what he said and explained in the 1800′s is essentially what we still do not. It was true then and is true now.
7th July - Module 4 - Continuation Chart Patterns
In this module Trevor Neil will start teaching chart patterns. This session covers patterns which indicate a price continuation. Which ones are effective? How to set objectives? When do you know your analysis is wrong? What volume action should you be seeing. This session is designed to give you confidence in trend following and catching and using reactions.
21st August – Module 5 - Reversal chart Patterns
In this module Trevor Neil will continue teaching chart patterns. This session covers patterns which indicate a price reversal. Which ones are effective? How to Set targets? When do you know your analysis is wrong? What volume action should you be seeing. This session is designed to give you confidence at market turns.
18th September – Module 6 - Defining the Trend
In this session Trevor Neil will show you how to define the trend, see clearly when the trend has ended. Draw trend lines correctly. Do we ever allow a small break of an otherwise perfect line? Reduce ‘false breaks’ at trend lines. Using trend lines is inevitably subjective but drawing then and trading them intelligently will add to your profitability as a trader or investor. Trend lines are very helpful when well used.
October 16th – Module 7 – Indicators Part 1
In this session Trevor Neil commences a comprehensive coverage of mainstream and popular indicators. Jointly these indicators show us if momentum is increasing or decreasing and whether there is a divergence message. We will look at Cardwell’s work on divergence taking us beyond the basic interpretation. We will look at signal generation including indicator patterns and trend lines on indicators. Trevor Neil will suggest ways of “improving” the profitability of indicators. We will look at using volatility-driven overbought and oversold levels and smoothing adjustments. This section will be spread over two Sessions with the second part on December 11th. The manual will be sent out after the November Module covering both Modules. We will look at some more esoteric but useful indicators in a future Module.
November 20th -Module 8 - Indicators Part 2

December 11th – Module 9 - Gann and his Techniques
In this session Trevor Neil will look at William D Gann, the man and his interesting and mysterious career. We will look at his trading strategies, his mathematical proofs of points of resistance, geometric forms and angles, ratios, squaring of time and price and the cardinal square. We will look too at his work on astrology and market pricing. WD Gann – a genius or a deluded fraud?
2016
January 15th – Module 10 - RN Elliott and his Techniques
In this session Trevor Neil will look at RN Elliott, the man and his techniques. We will look at the wave rules, the complex forms, Fibonacci as it applies to Elliott Wave analysis. We will look at the world with Elliott’s eyes right now.
February 19th – Module 11 - Fibonacci Retracement and Projections
In this session Trevor Neil will look at Fibonacci and the history of this technique. Trevor agues strongly this is not a ‘slf fulfilling’ phenomena. He sees its clear relationship with known human psychological biases. He will look at retracement measurement, where to start measuring and which level is the most likely level to gold and what ‘holding’ looks like. He will also show how to set objectives using Fibonacci extensions.
March 18th – Module 12 - Cycles
In this session Trevor Neil will look at cylces as they relate to the markets. The evidence of the existence and influence. He will look at the known cycles – Seasonality, Konstratieff, Kuznets, Jugler, Kitchin and others – and will discuss the practical application in trading.
April 15th – Module 13 - Fibonacci Retracement and Projections Part 2
In this session Trevor Neil will look at Fibonacci Fans, Arcs and Time. Trevor will also follow February’s introduction with the practical application of Fibonacci. He will answer some questions posed in Module 11, Where to start measuring? How do you know if a level is holding or failing? Can you prefer one level over another? How to use extensions in your trading.
May 20th – Module 14 - Relative Performance and How to Interpret Relative Strength Charts
In this session Trevor Neil will look at making investment choices: answering the question. What is best? How to outperform the market, how to protect yourself against a general market fall, how to see and analyse over/under performance, how to evaluate one opportunity versus another, how to trade changes in performance. June 17th - Module 15 - Reading the Message of Volume
In this session Trevor Neil look at the message that volume or turniver tells us. He will discuss the theory and then look at practical ways to display it. He will look at OBV in its various forms and some exotic volume calculations such as VWAP and ARMS Index and Mark Chaikin’s work. Finally he will discuss the problems of analysing volume in futures and the FX markets and suggest a solutions.
July 15th – Module 16 - Fibonacci Retracements and Projections Part 3
In this session Trevor Neil will complete the practical application of Fibonacci he started in Modules 11 and 13, Where to start measuring? How do you know if a level is holding or failing? Can you prefer one level over another? How to use extensions in your trading. Trevor will look at Fibonacci Fans, Arcs and Time. Attendees of this and the other Fibonacci will receive on manual for the three Modules covering Fibonacci.
September 16th – Module 17 - Candlestick Charting
In this session Trevor Neil will show you how to use Candlestick charting in your analysis and trading. He will show you the patterns used, what they indicate and their relative reliability. In a future Module he will return to Japanese techniques. There will be a Module on the application of Ichimoku-Kinko-Hyo and another looking at less familiar techniques including the excellent Heikin-Ashi, Kagi and Renko.
