Research & Content: Streamlining Content Discovery and Distribution Via Symphony

How are research & content discovery and distribution changing? What influence does the new millennial workforce have on these new workflows?

At Symphony Innovate 2017, Research and Content panelists discussed  data aggregation and the changes we see in how that content is distributed. Research is becoming more global, and machine learning technologies enable mining and faster processing of hundreds of content sources. Recipients also expect Research that's increasingly tailored to their unique interests, delivered in a digital, instant form. Panelists identified Symphony as a key platform that can provide a better content experience, where individuals can share research and content seamlessly. As moderator Susan Gilbertson, Deputy Global Head of Equity Research from Jefferies pointed out: "[Today's generation] makes decisions very quickly, they want change and they want things to be dynamic. They are very tech savvy and in terms of their habits, let’s be honest, 45% of how they decide to buy or consume something is based on recs from social media and family & friends."

Innovative companies, such as those with apps available today in the Symphony Market, are using these changing trends to their advantage. They are providing tools and aggregated data to Symphony users. As a result, their users can efficiently digest increased volume of information, develop deeper insights, and collaborate more efficiently with their counterparts on trades - all using one platform. Jim Tousignant, Founder & CEO of FinTech Studios said, "I think we're at a major change where how you get data, how it's organized, how you analyze it. We're well past the sort of commodity market data and particularly you look at the millennial generation they expect a different experience, they expect a different capability...Symphony is a key part of that because it helps, you know, obviously connect you to the right parties and ways that are relevant ."

The conversation continued around the distinction between the research available itself and the technological methods uses to discover and disseminate it. Arnaud Girod, Deputy Global Head of Research at Kepler Cheuvreux, pointed out how Symphony's RTC can enable global teams. "Sharing an investment idea through the through the video conferencing system, in a way that is really working, because we all know we've all experienced very bad connection issues, when it takes a long time to set up before the meeting, during the meeting...So that's one thing which gets me excited with Symphony."

Along with the global nature of teams is the growing amount of available research to find, aggregate, and distribute. Panelists discussed past and present pain points, and how they leverage Symphony to alleviate these as both clients and partners. "Symphony being an open platform...but not every financial platform has all these parts exposed where you can grab the chat out and do some analysis and push some more content in and put up a new window. Symphony being open really unlocked that and that allows us to deploy the technology in certain way," says Andrew Brook, CTO of Selerity. Symphony as an open platform allows partners to optimize data and research for discovery while allowing clients to leverage bots to tag content and streamline workflows.
