A new space race is underway.
Elon Musk (SpaceX
and Tesla), Jeff Bezos (Blue Origin and Amazon), Paul
Allen (Vulcan and Microsoft Founder), Richard
Branson (Virgin Galact
ic) and other leading tech
entrepreneurs are driving the space developments
with a bold view based upon business and technology
opportunities.
Commercial space is growing at exponential rates.
Success stories such as Google’s acquisition of Skybox
for $
500 million and Planet Lab’s ability of raising
$118 million are paving the way for both investors
and startups. In 2014, the space economy totaled
$330 billion, a 9 percent jump from the previous year
and up from $176 billion in 2005. VCs invested more
i
n space startups in 2015 tha
n in the previous fifteen
years
combined.
We are living a pivotal moment in history as a result
of technological changes.
The convergence of new
technologies and growing pace in which they are
unfolding increasingly impacting
people’s lives.
Harnessing the power of such events, commercial
space is following a pattern similar to what
microcomputers and the Internet have experienced
since the seventies and nineties, respectively, with
similar consequences for the human society
Panel purpose
The
panel
will
explore how the various issues across
businesses connected to the space sector, from TV
broadcasting, telecommunications, and media groups
to investment banks, data analytics and insurance
firms, are generating investment opp
ortunities for
different type of investors from venture capitalists to
institutional investors. The panel will offer insights
about a $350 billion sector that will continue to grow
exponentially in the foreseeable future.
Topics Covered will include
State and trends in the commercial
space
industry
Recent examples of successful deals in the
commercial space
