5 Easy Tricks to Write Catchy Headlines on Harvest

Why should you write a better headline for your content?

It’s not just about grabbing more eyeballs on your content that you worked so hard writing but it also increases your search chances with Google and other search engines.

Here’s what you need to know first:

  • Make sure your headline is accurate
  • Your headline is useful
  • The headline works with the content
  • The headline connects with readers
  • Ask yourself, are all the words necessary? If not, cut those words. (more on that below)
  • These 5 simple steps will help you improve your headline on Harvest and subsequently get more readers looking at your content and potentially increase your revenue:

    1. Put the most important point you are trying to say in your headline.

Use what, why, where, how, or when as your guide.

For example, you could write “How to be a better Investor”
A better headline is: “18 Ways You Can Be A Better Investor”

Another example: “Sell Your House in a Day”
A better headline is: “How To Effortlessly Sell Your House in 24 Hours”

    2. Use specific numbers or data points in your headline.

Integrating into your headline is an effective way to make headlines more enticing to readers. Several research studies have shown that headlines with numbers tend to generate 73% more social shares and engagement .

    3. Try to use one of these words in the headline: Top, Why, How, Will, New, Secret, Future, Your, Best, Worst.

    4.  Use adjectives or call to action words in your headline to increase clicks. For example: Tips, Reasons, Lessons, Tricks, Ideas, Ways, Principles, Facts, Strategies. Make your headline sexy!

    5. Statistically, using 8 words or less are better for headlines.

When analyzing over 2,100 posts on Harvest that were published over the last 6 months we noticed a trend based on the number of words within the post’s title. There starts to be diminishing returns once a post’s title gets beyond 8 words. Which is inline with our previous examples above. While fewer words are better, a post title should both adequately describe the content and draw the reader in.

    Good luck!
