1Q17 Performance - Scholars Choice

Highlights

  • Global equity markets continued to ride positive momentum from the end of 2016, though they pulled back in the last two weeks of the quarter, particularly in the U.S. The deceleration of U.S. equity market returns was caused, at least in part, by the first policy setbacks experienced by the Trump administration.
  • Despite this late pullback in U.S. markets, global equities (as represented by the MSCI All Country World Index1 ) increased 5.8% in the quarter — its largest quarterly gain since a 5.9% return in 4Q15.
  • Global fixed-income markets began recovering from historically steep losses experienced in the last quarter of 2016 by generating modest gains in the first quarter of 2017.
